A Photographic Journey

"A Photographic Journey", contains over 150 color photographs of Dr. Burch's favorite places, including Acadia, Bryce, Yellowstone, Yosemite, and Zion National Parks; Pawley's Island, South Carolina; Sedona, Arizona; the Oregon Coast; Kentucky Horse Farms, and many more.

Introduction

Gene Burch with his camera and talent has become as proficient and prolific with his work as popular painter Paul Sawyier was with his brush and oils a century ago in Frankfort, Kentucky. Gene's photography is on display in City Hall, in state government offices, and in homes and businesses.

In 2002 I was privileged to utilize his photographic talents in publishing A Walking Tour of Historic Frankfort. It was a huge success at the Kentucky Book Fair that year and is now in its second printing. I have always felt the success of that book hinged on the unique representation of Burch's superb images showing Frankfort's historic old homes and buildings. I am proud not only to count Gene as a very good friend but to have been a part of his photographic adventures.

And with that eye for perfection he has now given us A Photographic Journey. A compendium of his photo-travels in his home state of Kentucky, the West, New England, the Atlantic and Pacific seaboards, this work bears the stamp of his talent in various phases. For those of you who have experienced scenic Bryce Canyon, Yosemite, and Yellowstone National Parks you will certainly appreciate joining him on his journey. The colors and uniqueness of places like Sedona, Arizona and Pawleys Island, faraway places like Greece and Italy, make this a cherished book to ponder and behold and share with friends.

A Photographic Journey is a wonderful indulgence whether you have experienced these places or not. These photographs represent beautiful moments in time -- captured forever -- to enjoy at the turn of a page. So, what are you waiting for?

--Russell Hatter, Assistant Curator of Historic Sites, City of Frankfort.
